Need to RAISE felicia suspension - any help?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm new here, and I'm going on the Mongol Rally with my beautiful Skoda Felicia Estate, and i'm worried about it being to low to the ground. I was thinking of getting bigger springs to get more ground clearance and installing 14" wheels...

Does anyone know where I can get bigger springs? Does the 'Fun' Model and pickup have higher suspension?

I would really appreciate some help as I don't really know where to go!!!

Thanks!

TBH the felicia is quite the 4x4 when it comes to ground clearance.

some slightly taller and fatter tyers will help on the dirt

Is it possible to just install bigger springs to the car from scratch?

Many thanks

I wouldn't recommend trying to fit springs from a different model. Follow the advise to fit higher profile tyres, but ensure you still get good arch clearance.

you could but i dont know what ones you'd get.

You could increase the height by just changing the shocks to Favorit shocks 'cause the ride higher than Felicia's.

No you can't. For a given car, ride height is controlled by spring free length and poundage (yes and preload if you have coilovers). Fitting different length dampers will just change the proportions of bump and rebound travel.

Hi,

Well i've found some delightful 14" steel rims down at the scrapyard, off a forlorn looking Polo and I was wondering what the maximum tyre size I could use, I was thinking maybe of getting van tyres which are:

185/80/14's

Would they fit, or am I best off with 185/70/14's?

I mean change the whole lot i.e the shocks and the springs 'cause the Felicia is lower than the Favorit and it's 'cause the bottom spring cup holders are welded on in a different place, well on the MK2 Felicia anyway, not sure about the MK1. Which Felicia are we talking about?

Ok, if you'd said "...change the struts..." I'd have had no arguments.

Ah sorry Ken, well it should raise it by about 40mm then, any good crichtonmaitadm ?

And that should give enough space to get a 185/80R14 in in bump; can't help with whether it would catch the inner arches on full lock though.

Thanks guys, that's really useful info! Think I might buy some van tyres cos last time I heard the roads in Kazakhstan and Kryzstan aren't too good!

After reading this thread, am I right in thinking the suspension between the Felicia and favorit is a straight swap, with a 40mm raise on the Felicia?

Yes I believe so, you will need the springs and the dampers though, although there are other avenues you can explore too such as spacers in the top mounts etc... On the back end it might be possible to use a mk3 golf damper with the standard felicia rear spring to get a bit of extra height.
