Driving in Europe - need light stickers?

Featured Replies

I'm going to the Netherlands next month in my 2025 Superb SEL. Do I need the stickers for my headlights or will the lights automatically adjust for European driving?

Reading the helpful reply from @Stonekeeper , it seems that the lights themselves probably have a flat beam and so need no adjustment when travelling on 'the wrong side of the road', whatever side that may be for you.

What does clearly need changing, based upon the manual, is the detection technology which scans the road ahead for cars - both those ahead of you and oncoming. I had this same issue on our RR Velar and, on the occasion when I forgot to reset it upon our return to the UK, the adaptive high beam was causing issues because it was scanning ahead incorrectly.

Regards, Arianne.

As @Stonekeeper says, it’s a very easy switch over. Much easier than tape!

Thanks so much for the replies.

It’s a pity that the car doesn’t adjust them automatically based on its sat nav location data. Not rocket science, my previous car (Volvo) did just that.

You'd think it would. Maybe they'll do an update at some point.

True, that would be a nice touch. However, since I find myself sitting patiently on either the car ferry deck or Le Shuttle's transporter carriage waiting to unload (usually while some twerp has started their engine early with the intention of suffocating us with exhaust fumes 🙄), I use this time to alter the beam settings and clock. It's a displacement activity that the wife appreciates as an alternative to my moaning about the twerp 😅. Mrs A is a patient woman. Happy holidays!

Best wishes, Arianne.

My MK3 Superb changed the lights (not LED Matrix, obviously) for driving on the right and the speedometer and so on to metric automatically when I took it to Europe, I think it may have been linked to the sat-nav. I was hoping my MK4 would do the same as I intend to take it abroad at some point.

As my Mk4 SE L has the option to change in the settings, I’d be surprised if it changed automatically to be honest. Check out the settings before travelling would be my recommendation.

You're all talking about going to "Europe" as if you were based in Africa...

If we were based in Africa we wouldn't need to adjust our headlamp sensors, at least from most African countries 😅. But you are right, the UK is part of the continent of Europe, geographically speaking. The rest is complicated, as any two people heavily committed to a relationship will tell you 🙃. Moving on 😉

I'm sure that when we travelled to the Nurburgring last year via the Chunnel, France , Belgium , Germany and back via Rotterdam, every time we crossed the border, it gave me information regarding speed limits etc on the infotainment system and it automatically changed from mph to kph and back again.

I can't specifically remember about the headlights changing, but I know the car does it and stickers were not needed.
