try changing the coolant temp sensor

The garage messed up, then didnt fix the problem.

take it back, hand over the keys, tell them to call you when its right.

I do hope the garage paid for fixing it as if not I'd be presenting them with a bill for the work and if they don't pay starting a case against them.

Tom knows what he is on about and coolant sensors are usually a good place to start on most engines for rough starting/running.

My mechanics were working on a Peugeot whose owner blew the headgasket by overfilling the oil.

They fitted a new one, fired it up and it blew a conrod.

Think they were sourcing a replacement engine for it now though.

Back to topic yep sounds like one of the sensors.

Crankshaft, coolant temp and think there's another somewhere depending if you have the MPI or SPI engine.

i thougth the coolant temp senor only works the temp gauge on 1.3 single point injection but i will give it a try in the morning got a donor felicia on my drive to whip parts off at my pleisure thanks to all for your help and advice and to let cheesmonkhai know that i did not get a bill for the work done ,but when lady felicia is not misfiring she goes like snot thanks folks

I dont know wether its relevant. But I have a thread about slight misfiring on here, after changing the coil pack, plugs, air filter, temp sensor, thermostat, oil, filter, knock sensor.

I noticed that the car had a timing chain fitted to it a month or so before I bought it. And if the cog on the engine of this timing chain is out by one little tooth, it can cause the car to run like a dog.

I think skoda have been selling parts with the alignment dot in the wrong place, if you advise the garage it could be the timing cog (Smaller one bottom) - and to check where the alignmen dot is (should be just after the 3rd tooth from the notch (if you see it you will know what I mean) - worth a shot!

good luck.
