Adjustment for 4-wheel alignment

Featured Replies

Taking my car in for a 4-wheel alignment on a hunter machine tomorrow at RSE Motorsport in Llandudno junction.

Where is the adjustment for the camber etc? Is it on the 3 bottom ball-joint bolts connected to the wishbone? Or will they be shifting the subframe?

From what I've read only camber is adjustable by shifting the subframe as the bolt holes are elongated.

Only toe is properly adjustable from what I've read.

the best you will be able to do via movement in the subframe/console bolt holes is to even the camber out on the front, i.e. get it the same on both sides

doing any adjustment is pointless if your console bushes are FUBARed , as the wheels just move about giving random readings

In other words, if you have not first fitted Cupra TCA rear bushes, then checking alignment is in my mind a waste of good money.

Thanks for the replies. I have read numerous posts on this matter, but wasn't sure where the adjustment was done.

Anyway, had the car checked out on the Hunter machine last Friday and everything was within tolerance and factory settings (got the print out).

I came away feeling a bit fetched off to be honest, as I'm still none-the-wiser as to why my tires have been wearing unevenly. I fitted new cupra console and powerflex bushes about 8 months ago, so they're done. There's no play in the wheels and everything suspension and steering-wise is tight.

Basically the tires are wearing on the inside (as though it's either toe-ing out or has too much negative camber) and the outside is scrubbing a bit. I've already tried upping tire pressures to compensate for the wear but that didn't solve it.

So, having heard great reviews on various forums about the Hunter 4-wheel alignment setup, I decided to get it measured up. As I say, according to the print out everything is within tolerance. Where to go from here?

I had new tires put on afterwards as the old ones were worn too badly, but after doing 150 miles over the weekend I've noticed that there's a bit of a rubbing mark on the outside of the tires. I'm fearing that exactly the same thing will happen with these new tires, anyone have any final suggestions before i get rid of the bl@@dy thing?

I know what your problem is:

You have fitted Tires and not Tyres, them damed Yankies !

Joking a part, what sort of driving do you do? mainly motorway or all round town ??

I had a car (peugeot 405) and had simular problems, and was scrubed within 2000miles, I contacted the Tech department, and was told to bring in, and was told it was within spec, So still not happy I contacted the tyre manufacture who looked at the car and said the tracking was not what they suggested (Peugeot suggested xx Toe in/out and Mitchlin said 0 toe in/out) was reset by them two new tyres fitted and never had a problem again.

The Mitchelin guy said something about the diffrence in the high speed as apposed to slow speed round town made the diffrence, might be worth looking into that !
