Locking wheel nut advice - 18 inch Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi

Just given my Octavia II Vrs it's first clean today and noticed that the locking wheel nut is missing. Been all over the car and in spare wheel compartment and it's not there.

The nut itself looks like it takes an oversized torx bit.

Are all the nuts the same on these? I bought my car from a Ford Dealer. They are going to have a look around for it but I suspect a trip to the stealers is on the cards.

Are these all the same - I have searched the forum but can't find anything specific to the 18 inch Zenniths.

Thanks

Not sure. Give the good folk at ALS in Ely a call I reckon. 01353 699 302.

You'll probably need to give a Skoda dealer your VIN number and that will determine the locking key / nut combo. VW locking nuts all look similar but vary in the number of teeth. Not sure how many variations that there are. My advice would be to just buy some new locking nuts, McGard ones are always pretty good.

if you go to the skoda dealers they will have a master set of lwb keys, match the correct one up annd order accordingly.......

Have you checked the glove box, and also the little 'cubby box' below/right of the steering wheel?

He's missing the locking nut not the key.

I'm

Are you missing the 'key' to you locking wheel bolts or one of the locking wheel bolts itself i.e 5 regular bolts on one wheel?

Bizarrely enough exactly the same thing happened to me. Washing the car 4 weeks after getting it new(it had been in an airport carpark for 2) I noticed that one of the locking nuts was missing. I reckoned it hadn't been fitted or not fitted properly, dealer insisted it has been stolen (they stole the nut not the wheel ).

Anyway I replaced them all with a set of McGard Ultras from this lot

McGard Wheel Locks, McGard, Wheel Locking Bolts/Nuts, McGard Tuner Locks, Kleen Wheels - Exclusive Tuning & Design - Accessories

They key is a bit delicate so you havr to be careful to seat it properly and not over torque the nuts. I broke one but you can order replacements from Germany.

'the locking wheel nut is missing' suggests that one of the nuts is missing but I think on second read he means the key.

Sorry if it's wasn't clear. All the nuts are present (except strangely all the caps are missing on the front N/S...)

I don't have the key to remove the locking nut , so therefore if I get a puncture it's time to call Mr RAC to bring a tow truck...

I have been through the car thoroughly and unless there is a secret wheel nut compartment, I have resolved myself to the fact it isn't there.

Will ring a dealer tomorrow , Vindis Cambridge the nearest although there is a VW Dealer a mile down the road from me so I wonder if I could go there....

I would imagine any VW dealer would be able to sort you out. Even worth checking with any friends who have VAG cars to see if theirs fit - doesn't help you long term but means you can get them all off and replace them.

Phoned two dealers this morning.

One , Wings of Peterborough very helpful , £14 come in and we will use our master set.

The other Vindis Cambridge still awaiting a call as they didn't know....

Guess where I will be getting the car serviced in future.

Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for the clarification; Let's hope you don't get a puncture too soon.

FYI the 'official' location for the 'key' is a small circular recess in the spare wheel filler that has the Jack, wheelbrace etc.in.

Whilst you are about it; have you got the pair of tweezers used to take the caps that cover the wheelnuts off?

Definitely not there. I have a round shaped piece of wire with a hook which may pass as a removal tool for the wheel caps but certainly not tweezer shape...

While u are at the dealers, get the caps ordered too, they are only pennies each, maybe order a few more than is required as they can come off on occasion.

That is an alternative cap remover if you have the VW type of cap with a hole in the middle.

Skoda/Audi caps need tweezers. Have a look at this;- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Genuine-Wheel-Lug-Nut-Caps-Bolt-Covers-for-AUDI_W0QQitemZ110405889365QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item19b4b42d55&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1|66%3A2|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A3|294%3A50 I have bought from this seller before.

Apologies, thread hi jack.

Can you buy those tweezers separately? Mine have walked after the last trip to ATS. I just noticed a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks  don't have either of these but still need to be able to get the nuts off in the first place.

BTW Just had a call from Vindis to say that they can book me in to have the car looked at with their "special tools", only half hour labour.

I ordered a couple when i noticed one missing on my last car and it think it was a grand total of £1.66 for the 2

Today I visited Wings in Peterborough.

Very helpful, quickly found the right master unlocking bolt (FOC) and lent me it to get them off so I could replace them with non locking nuts (£10) until the new locking bolts (£14) come in.

Also got a set of VRS mats for £37 and five free caps for the missing wheel.

So 10/10 to Wings for service and wooden spoon to Vindis .

Thanks for the help on this.

BTW Wings are no longer a Superchips dealer, despite what their phone system says.
