Footwell Lighting

Featured Replies

Hi, over the next couple of weeks I intend to try and fit some footwell lighting as I have nothing else to do now exams are over.:)

I have searched and know how I want to wire them in etc, but was wondering if any of you who have done it before have any pictures of yours and what bulbs/lights you used as I am trying to work out what kind of lights to use to get the effect I am after.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Depends what you're after really, haven't done this yet, but might give it a go as my exams are over too! My mate had some cheap neon tubes, but you gotta be carefull as they can get broken easily, maybe look at mounting some leds somewhere? As they're cheap, bright and harder to break. You're gonna need to wire in a fuse and switch for the lights as well really.

Yeah, was gonna use some LED strips, but don't know how harsh they will be in relaity vs some proper bulbs. RE. the fuse and switches, I was gonna let them come on/off with the puddle lights in the doors as I don't want them on while driving really. I also figured the current draw from LEDs' should be small enough not to warrant a fuse.

I'm in the middle of a footwell light install now. It's been on hold while I sorted out the window carrier mess, but should be back on track now.,

Anyway, I personally didn't like the idea of LED's. Maybe if all the interior bulbs were changed to LED it'd work, but they'd be the only ones in my car so I figured they'd look outta place. I prefer the warmer colour to.

I bought some dirt cheap side repeaters of ebay.. mainly because they have a nice concealed unit with a lens to mount it all in. I've mounted them as high up and far back in the centre console as I can.

One thing to note. The puddle / warning lights only come on when a door is opened or unlocked, not when the interior light is switched on. For thei reason I'm gunna run a cable down from the mail lamp.

Thanks, thats quite a nice and simple idea. Thats a fair point about the puddle lights, I just don't know if I would have the patenice to take it from the roof light.

Assuming you have got this far, how easy was the roof bit to do?

Haven't got that far.. just physically got the lamps in, no wiring.

However.. I don't think it'll be that hard. I've had the lamp unit out of the roof before and loads a places to take a power source from on the back of that.

Should be easy to run a cable behind the glove box, round the side of the dash and then up the a pillar trim.. The only part I'm not sure about is pulling the front of the roof lining down.. but apparently as long as you don't crease it it'll go back up no trouble. :)

I did give a passing thought to hooking each up to their equivalent map light.. but not sure this is practical for night driving.
