something hanging off my car

Featured Replies

hey can anyone help, noticed a few days ago that my car was making a funny noise when going over speed bumps, so checked under the car and there is something hanging off it, the other side seems to be secure. its some sheet of metal that folds around exhaust, i dont know much about cars, ive attached some pics. can any one help? is the car safe to drive etc? what do i need to do to fix it back on? looks like original bolts or screws have fell off.

Thanks

That's just heat shielding for the exhaust, nothing too drastic to worry about, it wraps around the whole exhaust so shouldn't come off but i'd get some new nuts or clip things soon...

Failing that an exhaust place or Skoda dealer should have some nuts/bolts to fix it, don't think they should weld it if they do offer to...

Yea theres these little push on washer thingys that should hold it in place, just get a couple from a garage, there are a couple of types that will fit. (Or steal a couple from the lining in the engine bay then replace later)

that's an exhaust heat shield.

Have a look here for one answer, but otherwise visit the dealer for a new fixing. The car is safe to drive, but I'd avoid speed bumps!

Personaly, I'd just buy some of the retaining plates or nuts from any VAG dealer's parts place - they don't cost much, maybe buy a few extra ones while you are at it.
