Does anyone use BP ultimate on their cars and have they experienced any problems with it?

I tried BP ultimate and found it was pretty good. Use regular BP and am happy with it. Used to swear by Shell, but recently I thought it was making my engine sound rough as a bag of spanners and seemed to produce less power.

I have used BP Ultimate for 3yrs since getting car - would not change now.

I too use BP Ultimate Diesel exclusively and have found no problems although I suspect a very slightly reduced mpg this winter. In 20K over 2.5 years (not a high mileage driver at the moment) on our 140 TDi, we have yet to see the light for the particulate filter come on. Rightly or wrongly, I attribute that to the fuel and to the type of driving we undertake. That said, my mentioning it will probably prove to be the kiss of death........

Custard tractor...service your 140 bhp superb more frequently and give it a run at least once a week on a motorway or long dual carriage way and the car should be fine...ive had mine for 3yrs with no issues. having said that, i do service the car every 6k miles...which is better than what the dealer recomends in the service schedule, given the possible problems the car has inherited what with the disel particulate filter getting clogged...thats why i decided to upgrade the service.....so at least i know everything is clean and airflow and oils are of a clean nature, thus minimizing the problem with the combustion side.

Touch wood our car has done 35k miles and no warning lights have appeared.....apart from low screen wash and coolant.....car drives super smooth and i'm happy with it....regardless of the threads written on here...i firmly believe if you look after the car....it will look after you.

how much is bp ultimate diesel?

I am paying about 5p per litre more than BP std Diesel - so locally 118p.

Skodanut - thanks. I didn't mean to suggest that she wasn't running well - she is and we rarely do short journeys (but we rarely exceed 2500rpm either!) I may live to regret staying with variable service intervals but my curiousity and natural frugal nature will have me seeing how things pan out. May I not live to regret it! Nevertheless thanks for the advice.

the whooshing noise is the lift pump from the tank pressurizing the fuel system it sounds like its faulty which will cause running problems, i believe its in with sender unit in the tank. hope this helps

now I'm not suggesting this as a possible reason - I'm certainly not tech-savvy enough - but what would be the effect of inadvertently topping up the tank with 20litres of unleaded rather than diesel? (What's that, third of a tank?)

Only, I've been looking for some BP Ultimate to try out - but round my way the BP forecourts only seem to stock unleaded ultimate, and not diesel ultimate...

Normally only happens with less than 1/2 a tank of gas in it, it could be though so don't count it out, however I'd spend £15 first replacing the fuel sensor and see if that helps.
