Help.

Drove to my mum and dads at the weekend, along the foss, and car felt fine (although a little smokey, but I pressumed it was just the hills).

Started up this morning, and the engine was making a noise like an inlet valve stuck open (the rushing of air as the piston trys to compress it), and I could feel the air pulsing through the intake.

However, if the intake valve is stuck open, it would miss-fire. But it isnt.

Anyone got any ideas?

Dave

Have you checked all of the connections along the boost hoses running from turbo to intercooler to engine?

^^^that would go with the smoke (unburnt fuel).

I havent yet as I was late for work, but why would that cause the intake (cold side) to pulse?

I did check the pipe from the EGR thingy to the intercooler, and that was ok.

And the boost gauge was still reading over 1bar when it was smoking?!

I do need an excuse for a BIG turbo for swmbo, plus intercooler, W/I etc. Haha

Got this sorted.

It turned out to be a Hydraulic tappet, and the exhaust valve wasnt closing properly.

Cost me £12.73 for a tappet from Euro Car Parts, and I got some engine flush £5, filter £11, and some great oil my mate supplyed me with, RRP is £13 a litre, and I got 5 for £25.

1.5 hours, and its sorted.
