Featured Replies

Hi guys i just have got four new tyres for my fabia vrs. The wheel size for the vrs wheels is 205/45 16 but my new tyres are 215/45 16 bit bigger

I just want to know it they will be alright or do i have to get them changed i just found out know im not happy

oh and i just got Bridgestone lm-22 all four for £160 plus fitting is that a good price :o

Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 1 of 2 is a great site and has lots of good information.

According to the tyre size calculator on there, your new tyres are about 1.5% different in circumference - the normal recommended maximum is 3% so you should be OK from that poin of view.

However, the rim width calculator on the site (or Rimwidthulator) recommends a wheel width of between 7 and 8.5. The Fabia vRS wheels are only 6.5 IIRC, so on this point you are outside the recommendation.

In addition, the wider tyre may also give rise to rubbing issues. Maybe someone has tried and can comment.

I'd fit the correct size for the OEM 16" wheels personally. How did it come about that you ended up with that size?

i just took the car to garage and they put new tyres on and when i came home i checked the size and it was not the same as before :(

Should i take it back or will be arlight

I think you should stick to standard, but im no expert. either way if they spec'd up the tyre, its their fault and they should fix it free of charge.

the big number is the tyre width right?

The profile/rim size is the same.

Was this a professional tyre place or somewhere like Kwik Fit?

Speak to the tyre fitter if you have concerns about it.

but the profile is expressed as a percentage of the width, so the tyre is both wider and taller

They've not replaced like with like, which is what you've asked them to do. You expected the same specification of tyre to the ones previously fitted. This is a given, because you didn't expressly ask them to fit anything of a different specification.

The goods and service they have therefore provided are not fit for purpose. Take the car back and ask them to put it right.

I agree with Wardy. Take it back and ask them to fit the correct tyres. Chances are a set of 205's is going to cost more than a set of 215's, so be prepared to pay a little more than you're £160 for four.

I'd be prepared to pay nothing more to get the correct specification tyres on, seeing as it's their mistake. Did you agree a price for this beforehand, or did you just go into the place straight off the street, so to speak?

Steve

Another site that states that 215 45 16 tyres need a rim width of between 7 and 8.5

Print it out and take them back!
