Trip computer fault in Roomster?

Featured Replies

I have just returned after picking up a new Roomster Scout 1.9 tdi from Nottingham.

The 400 odd mile journey north to Fort William went like a dream and I thoroughly enjoyed driving the car.

I have one question, which relates to what seems to be a fault with the trip computer:

When I select 'instant mpg' (not average mpg), then the screen seems to run a series of spurious readings (one every couple of seconds) and has no bearing as far as I can see to the expected mpg. eg. at 50 mph in 5th when one might expect a high mpg the reading skips about from anything from 36mpg to 120 mpg, with a new reading every few seconds)

So, before I take the car up to my nearest dealer for a look, I just thought I would check that this isn't typical of this setting or that I am doing something wrong?

Cheers, Terry

I think that is quite normal..... never been able to work out the point of such massive fluctuations in readings!!!!!

Far better just using the average mpg setting..... and enjoy

I don't get it, "instant mpg" refresh rate is linked to an event not the time. Meaning every time fuel consumption has changed - for whichever reason - the reading, and display, will change too. Arithmetic mean of all "instant mpg"s is the "average mpg", therefore - for example - you can't have high mpgs all the time and expect low average mpg at the end. Another point is that board computer is not 100% exact, and has a slight bias towards lower consumption. I've noticed this on many Skoda models, although I don't believe this is something specific only to Skoda.

My MaxiDot fuel consumption is 7% optimistic, though distance and speed displays are as near accurate as I can measure. Shame on you, Skoda!
