Hi, new young member. Future fabia owner

Featured Replies

Hi, I am fabia19, I am a 19 year old lad living in the North West of England.

I do not currently have a fabia. But ever since my auntie got a 1st gen fabia back in 2001 and I sat in awe at the lovely quality clunk of its doors shutting, the comfortable seats, the very capable ride, the functional clean dash and stereo, and the exterior beauty. I have been convinced it would be my first car. Especially once I spotted the used prices.

I have not yet had the available funds for a car (well insurance), though I passed my driving test april 2008. I have been riding scooters and motorcycles as a cheaper alternative. But now I am 19 and have a couple of years NCB on bikes which I can carry over onto a car policy the fabia is looking allot closer now.

I have been expirmenting with insurance quotes on pretty much every hatchback you can think of, and none come come as cheap as the fabia 1.4 8v or 1.9 SDi classic.

I will be looking at getting a fabia within the next 2-3 months. I am looking at spending no more than £1200, and either a 1.9 SDi or a 1.4 8v.

I have joined Briskoda to gain any advice on buying/living with a fabia, or indeed if anyone has one for sale. And also to find out more about the skoda community.

Ok thanks. :)

Welcome :)

The 1.4 is what I would choose out of those.

Hiya.

Buying second-hand, I'd look at the condition of the cars rather than fuel type, and unless you're anticipating doing a lot of miles or at least a lot of longish trips that take several hours not worry about diesel economy and cruising ability.

Equally, if you'd do a lot of short (under 3 miles) trips, the petrol engine will have an edge because it warms up faster.

Yeah I will go with whatever is in the best condition as insurance prices for either the 1.4 or 1.9sdi are exactly the same. The sdi would be nice to have with the great economy, but 18 seconds 0-60 it is a bit of a slug. But I wouldnt let that put me off.

Plus diesels are more hard wearing and are not likey to of been abused. But then again most skodas are not abused as sensible people buy them.

Is there anything to look out for especially when viewing a used fabia?

Cheers.;)

Welcome along.
