Broken Vrs Brake Light Switch??? FAO AWESOME SARAH

Featured Replies

Reet,

Got the Flashing Coil light on my dash, which Awesome Sarah reliably informs me indicates a broken brake light switch :o Breakdown guy has been out, and after half dismantling the dash has concluded that the switch bracket and housing isn;t broken, doesn't look like the pedal is missing the little piston that it should it to activate the sprung switch. Brake lights come on when he presses the switch manually, but not when the he tries to get the pedal to do it. Also, the brake lights won't switch off (so he has disconnected them under the dash to stop them draining the battery - Wardy and Sarah, don't worry he he!!).

Anyone got any bright ideas? No pun intended :P

New switch needed?

Awesome Sarah, is there any chance you could fit me in this Saturday please??? I will be eternally grateful!!

If not, are any of you guys mobile autoelectricians in Manchester by any chance? If not, could you recommend any? Car is off the road until brakelights are fixed :rotz::(

CHEERS!!!

Sounds like a new switch to me.

Right, you need to trust people that know.

When they switch is faulty on the light side the lights will come on all the time. The switch has two parts, one for the lights and one for the ECU. Just because the lights work doesnt mean the switch is ok.

i occasionaly get the flashing coil, was wondering what it meant, now i know! thanks

but yeah what is needed to be done?

The switch is a pretty simple replacement, around £10 I think from a dealer IIRC.

Haha! Spare switch bought and fitted in 1 hour by me!!! Brake lights work fine now!

Erm, maybe daft question but if the ignition isn't on, but i press the brake pedal, will the brake lights come on?

Back up to a shop window and try it....

Tried it, and the brake lights do come on when I press the brake pedal even though the key isn't in the ignition.

Then you've answered your question methinks.

Yes , I do believe that it is supposed to

Glad you managed to get it sorted ;)

Mmm , do I become an AA techie

Sarah

Indeed, they do work with the ignition off. A safety feature I think.
