Diesel on auto servicing, how far should it go between services

Featured Replies

The L&k 1.9 TD is on Auto servicing, first service was called for at 28000, we are now at 54000 & waiting for the light to come on.

One dealer we spoke to sounded somewhat concerned the car was going this long between services

Anyone any thoughts & what mileages are others getting

Car does high mileage & a lot of it is Motorway driving, car is 18 months old

I remember reading that 30k was the upper limit for variable service if you do a lot of relatively stress free driving on the motorway

Impressive service intervals, Stuart. The book allows you to go to 58000 miles before the next service - but what happened to 40000 mile service items ie fuel filter, ribbed V-belt, PAS fluid level and air filter element change? The camshaft belt is due change on the TDI engine at 90000km so I would guess that you will include that with your next service rather than wait until 60000 miles?

Have to admit I would also be concerned. However although I am also variable servicing with the pd130, I have only done 11k in 18 months so mine is 2 yrs intervals in all likelyhood.

Umm...why the concern?

If you think the car is going too long between visits to dry-dock, you can always put it in "early" :)

That was the thing that put me off using the variable service.

I thought that if I was going to get good long intervals of say 25k miles I'd end up having to take it in between those services to get other odds and ends done to meet their schedule , or as they wear out , so I may as well stick to the fixed intervals and at least have a clearer idea of what I will have to do (and pay) at what time.

Plus 25k miles in between anyone looking at the car to see whats fallen off seems a bit too long to my mind.

What if the indicator has broken and your engine is chewing itself to bits :(

Just 30k? Then VAG doesn't trust the British...

Here it's 50k kms. :D

Well 30k miles is 48k kilometres.......

Which means they are selling you 2k kms short... :D
