Went For A Test Drive And Guess What I Bought

Featured Replies

Went to my local dealer today to test drive an octavia estate tdi and they had just had a 130pdi octavia estate delivered to them. They weren't expecting any for months. Anyway after trading in my subaru I have now bought it and take delivery on friday. Should slash my fuel bills anyway.:D

He-hey. Another Subaru owner joins the Octavia club. I think that's four of us now !

If you had an Impreza wagon (like me) you'll find that the boot is quite a lot bigger - or at least that's what the dog tells me as we no longer have to fold the seats down to get him in. Its also as well built as my Legacy as well. Just as with the Subaru, you'll find a few Skoda quirks, but I've no regrets at all.

On the diesel side you'll get lots of advice and views on here re chipping / remapping them. All I'll add is that I did my last two Audi diesels (110Tdi, 150 V6 Tdi) and it is well worth it as the fuel consumption is only a bit worse than before.

Boot will definitely be bigger because I'm going from a 4 door MY98 turbo impreza to the octavia estate. Its just a pity my scoobysport backbox won't fit the tavia!

Not sure about chipping. Can the 6 speed box and clutch take 310nm of torque?

Fairly easily :D

Doc

Welcome to briskoda! Does the 130 PD 'Tavia still feel quick after having owned a scoob? Or is that asking too much? Will you be chipping her?

I haven't thrashed it but it certainly felt reasonably quick on the test drive. It doesn't matter how good it is I shall still miss the scoob though.

As for chipping it - maybe. I just need convincing that the 6 speed box will take all that torque. If the improvement is the same as for the 130 pd bora then I would be looking at around 310nm of torque.

Getting insurance will also be easier for a standard car.

Welcome and nice choice,

I went to my local dealer a couple of months ago looking for a diesel estate, and he didn't mention the 130, only seemed interested in selling his current stock so i got a vRS estate. Might look at the 130 estate when they finally get one. My dad has the 130 engine in an A4, its a cracking engine, such an improvement over the 110.

Cheers

Phil

Another ex scoob owner here, Do I miss it, to be totally honest NO. It was fun but cost a small fortune to run.

I dont think you will be disapointed.

as for mods, the 130 lump is almost certainly identical to the similar VW & Audi cars so if they take the extra the Skud will.

A p1!!! i always wanted one of those, how could you possibly sell it? Isnt the insurance group 20? Which car is nicer to drive?

Doc

Re the 6 speed box worry.

My A4 Tdi V6 Quattro was chipped to 285lb/ft torque which I'm sure is a bit more than 310Nm, and that ran a 6 speed box as well. Did 45000m without a problem or any signs of one.

Just think of the Octavia as Audi-VW only better...:D

Dear Doc

Congrats on your new purchase of the elegance pd. Do you know what the 0-60 is and top speed and also the fuel economy?

How much are these selling for now as I'm interesting in buying one?

The list price including metallic paint for the elegance 130pd estate is

I would guess at top speed and acceleration as being similar to the superb with the same engine i.e 0-60 in circa 10 seconds. It will be a lot slower than the impreza but a lot less painful on the pocket! The problem with impreza's is that they make all drivers look good, they are so easy to drive fast that to have any fun you risk your licence (obviously I never had any fun).

With all the money I save I fancy a weekend car if the wife will let me, perhaps a lotus 7 lookalike, high power to weight ratio and grin inducing rear wheel drive. At my age (33) it wouldn't be a good idea to get into motorbikes, I don't want to be a donor!

Doc

I was reading a test of the SEAT Ibiza PD 130 Sport yesterday and its 0-62 time was given as 9.2 seconds , so around 10 for the heavier Octy sounds about right. It also points the way to the Fabia vRS's acelleration figures......
