Trailer lights problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

just hitched up the trailer for a run to the tip and when I plugged in the lights...NO trailer lights. I have tried a different towing light board and that wont work either. The single electrics were done 2 years ago at the main dealer and are the proper Skoda kit, not on a bypass relay. It is a new type 13 pin plug with an adaptor back to normal 7 pin trailer plug. The car must be detecting the lights as I am getting a bulb fail light on the dash when I plug the lights back in. My question is, does anyone know if and where there is a fuse or reset, otherwise it is a trip back to the dealer? Any help please as the rubbish is wailting to go off to the tip. Thanks

Hi Tandk

Hat it ever worked since being fitted?

I know this sounds daft (and is two years ago) but did the dealer turn the wiring on whan they fitted the bar.

If they did, strip down the socket and check the wiring, poss the earth is not connected

If the car gives a blown bulb warning when you connect the trailer it means some part of the electrics is communicating with the trailer. It also means that the main dealer has not installed the trailer electrics correctly or isn't using the correct wiring kit. The correct kit correctly installed will not cause warning lights to turn on in the car. Splice in trailer electrics with no relay box will give this error on any car that monitors for blown bulbs and should be avoided for this reason.

If you can get your hands on a multimeter start probing the trailer plug for voltage between the earth pin and the sidelight/brake/indicator pins. Wiring diagram is here: Wiring Diagram

Yes the electrics have been working up till the other day. Sorry I did not make that clear.

I think it is a fault rather than something the dealer has done/not done. Rang the dealer today and they gave me a couple of things to try, but no luck. Its going in on Wed for them to check it out. Hopefully they will find an easy fix. I will keep you posted

Any chance a fuse is blown somewhere?
