Alfa did it like that on the "whatever number it was" model. Must be legal?

Evo's and alfa's have a plate which means the plate is flat and not wrapped around the bumper

Yes because if you were to be gunned by a laser how would it reflect back to the gun.

I think as long as it is near flat and near vertical it should be perfectly legal (assuming all the other things like font, spacing etc are legal)

Inpection to BS requirements are now part of the MOT test

The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -

The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)

The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)

The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean acompany whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)

A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.

There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

How did the insurance react to this mod? Would have thought they might have been upset you altered the bumper area so radically.

Also the number plate doesnt appear to be BS compliant and can it be offset and at an angle like on the pic?

i doubt you would have to notify your insurance over this as all you are doing is removing a couple of bits of plastic. would be liek having to notify your insurance company if you peeled your rubstrips off??

as for the number plate, as long as the plate itself is legal and sitting as close to the front of the car, forward facing and vertical as the car allows then there will be no issues with the law or an MOT.

If I were you I would inform your ins co. I was surprised at what I had to declare (and have put on my schedule) e.g. Factory fit optional parking sensors. I was told it had to go on.

Read your policy and it will have clause that says something like "If you make any alterations........you must tell us......"

In the event of an accident, any undeclared alterations spotted by the assesor would probably cancel your cover.

If you crash just make sure you hit the front end so it smashes the bumper up and they won't even notice ;)

you can be surprised by some insurance companies. mine took note of my tints, lowering etc. but didnt bother with the alloys as they were the same size and using same tyre profile as standard.

what they dont know is i've taken the badges off the car

and personally i cant see the bumper having much different effect as its still the standard bumper, adding a LCR splitter would be seen more of a mod as its an add on...

I've seen a yellow big mouthed VRS near me in Warrington... is that anyones on here??? Think it has black wheels if I remember correctly.

My front number plate is illegal, no BS marks or ident for where it was made. Do I care? Not really tbh, there are far worse on the road.

Positioning is fine as far as im aware, having been stopped by the police they werent concerned

I'm in the same boat.... Even though mine IS sporting BS number, company & postcode.... The latter two could be a figment of my imagination ;) It looks fine and I've had no trouble with the law, so I believe ANPR reads it fine (as that's usually what sets them off and makes them hunt you down)

my sticker plate is also sporting the bs number and post code from the maker as i got it made last summer before all those stupid regulations came into play.

its been lying in a drawer waiting on this mod to go ahead

got a phonecall this morning to ask about my paint code as they couldnt find it on the car where it was meant to be so hopefully they managed to get that part sorted as i want my car back! all i've seen of it in just over a week now is the pic i posted in this thread.

well got my car back today and i'm stil unsure of the look, its missing something, mostly a front mount but i think it also needs another LCR splitter.

they also painted the lower front mudguard things red which i'm a little confused at so they will be getting painted black this week as they just look weird coloured.

Im going to be *attemping* something similar on a MK4 Ibiza over the winter I reckon, with a spare bumper I have. What have you guys done with the crash bar? kept in there? or taken it off? or cut it so each end is still there but nothing in the middle?

Re : number plate, do you guys just have a sticker? or what? I was thinking of the alfa and how they mount a normal plate on theirs, and thinking of doing the same, but if I can get away with a legal sticker, id do that :)

Looking good

Definately needs an LCR splitter though and FMIC at some point.

Out of interest how much did they charge you for painting? I'm looking to get my grill and bumpers resprayed soon. PM me if you like.

my crash bar hasn't been touched at all, i thought it best left alone until i get a FMIC sorted out before cutting it.

what do the alfa's have?

i have a sticker on it, not 100% legal as its not got markings and is slightly smaller letters (import size) but this ones just a temporary measure as i'd rather have that than no plate to do me til i get to work on monday.
