odd noise going round roundabout

Featured Replies

Coming home tonight I braked very hard from fairly high speed, then started to turn into a roundabout when a noise loud enough to hear over Scott Mills started. I slowed down a bit more going round in second turned off third exit started to pull away and the noise went, not instantly but gradually. Its a sort of "mechanical" chuffing and seems speed not gear related. This is the second time this has happened in the same way. Car drives fine. Any ideas? Did about 700 miles last weekend, fairly rapidly sometimes to Yorkshire and back - not a sausage:confused:

The only other noise out of the ordinary is a slight rattle at low speed over uneven roads - possibly rad, track rod end, Arb etc but only just noticeable.

No ideas anyone? Going to jack it up in a while and have a look

Speed related chuffing?

CV joint? Warped brake disc?

Wouldn't they both be there all the time?

Well, if you also have a problem with the pads not springing back very quickly then the brakes could do that after heavy braking.

To be honest though that is just a guess.

Sounds possible. I found after looking today that the offside lower ball joint is knackered, so I'll fix that and clean the brakes up at the same time.
