I had a problem with my Fabia vRS recently. One of the brake caliper pistons on the back had leaked it's oil and let water in. The piston siezed. The result was a constant touching of the inside pad on the disc. The pad totally wore away and a howling noise presented itself while driving as the pad clip started rubbing on the disc. The car is 2.5years old and has only been serviced at 2 different Skoda dealers located in and on the outskirts of Nottingham (I shall name no names). Neither had noticed the problem. Poor show.

After the noise started getting worse, I knew it needed attention. I called one of the Notts Skoda dealers on a Saturday morning. I described the problem. 'Can you have a look?'. 'No' they said, 'We've only got one technician in', we can have a look during the week'. 'Ok, can I have a courtesy car to get to work?'. 'No' they said, 'all the loan cars are booked out'. Hmm... 'Can I bring it to you next Saturday?' . 'No' they said, 'we're fully booked'. A bit stuck then really! Poor show.

I called DSB on Newcastle Street in Bullwell Notts. They agreed to see the car. When I got there, they were busy but dropped what they were doing. The mechanic came out for a drive with me. He methodically diagnosed the problem and agreed to fix it on Monday evening, despite being busy. He showed me the problem and explained how it could be resolved. I was quoted a very reasonable price. I was delighted by this service. When I took the car in, it was fixed no problem. Sarah (the paperwork lady) made me coffee and was very polite. I felt like a customer not an inconvenience, SKODA ARE YOU LISTENING!? I will be sending a copy of the bill to Skoda in hope they will give me some dosh (the car was on original pads and is under warranty). They probably wont. The car will be due for service at the end of August / early September and will still be under warranty. Will I be taking it to Skoda? Will I f!$ck. I'll be taking it to DSB. A proper garage.

My experience of Skoda main dealers is poor too. I go to one who does it as a sideline to their main dealership, and they are about 100 times better.

Good luck trying to claim the money back, because you have absolutely no chance. :(
