COIL PACK :(

Same codes mine had when it munched a couple Steve.

Cheers Tony. Picked up two from VW this morning. When I popped the bonnet to change number one over, it was smouldering! Quickly cut the battery off, and removed it pretty quickly. It had done a good job of destroying itself, but there doesn't appear to be any more damage apparent.

Fitted a replacement and connected everything back up, but the engine's not starting now. Starter motor's turning over, but no dice :(

Steve

Had a smouldering coil pack on a 16V polo a while back, replaced it and no start. It had blown a fuse.

Is the correct answer! 20A ignition fuse had gone. But thanks to Pete for spotting it

Big, big thanks to Pete and Carl for coming over. Commendable Briskoda service

Thanks everyone - all now seems well again after a roadtest and no issues/lights/fault codes.

Cheers,

Steve

 Glad I don't have coilpacks on mine. :D

Your welcome Steve

Glad it's all sorted and your back up and running again

Carl:thumbup:

YAY!! see you Sunday.

The skoda lives!!!

Great new Steve, Glad you got it sorted. It's just bloody typical that things like this always happen when you have something planned!

You can bring that RAM for me now and I can give you this GPS thingamy at least! :P

Phil

we aim to please , good brew as wel mate . lol.

Glad it sorted, didn't want you sending the boys round

Worth buying a spare to keep on board Steve.

Glad its fixed though :)

  • Author

Indeed Tom - bought two, so one spare in the boot

It could just be my paranoia, but I think I'm picking up a slight hesitancy at lower revs now. No running issues or lights/errors on the run to and from the National Day (250 miles round-trip) so that's positive at least!

Cheers,

Steve

Whats the new part num again mate?

Will post it up when I get home

I was quoted this P/N as the latest revision by the VW dealer:

07K 905 715F

Listed as coilpack 'revision D' apparently :)

Cheers,

Steve

Cheers mind if i cut and paste that into the Octavia Parts thread bit?

Carl:thumbup:

Go for it mate - top idea

Glad you got this sorted relatively easily with only coming fairly close to an engine fire by the sounds! :o

Car was looking good anyway

And just so you know the memory has worked a treat :D

p.s. curious as to what you get MPG wise on a run in that as you don't have a spritmonitor jobby.

Phil

Hi Phil - yeah, all seems to be running well now. And glad the RAM is running well

MPG - 38mpg overall on the run down, was interesting that actually as a test, as was going a little slower on the convoy down, 70-75 for the most part, where I usually lock cruise in at 80. On the way back 35mpg with that approach. Don't use Spiritmonitor although I do know about it - I've always had an Excel sheet setup, so just drop all the fuel info into that. Getting 30-32 out of a full tank usually. I do a fair bit of urban stuff, but I don't think that's too bad.

Cheers,

Steve

Just to complete to the thread...

This is what happens when a coilpack really breaks! :D

I took this when I'd taken it out and let it cool down, but forgot to post it up later in the day.
