Heel & Toe

Featured Replies

Am I right in thinking that the ECU in the vRS "ignores" any accelerator pedal inputs when the brake pedal is depressed beyond a certain point?

I've got in the habit of smoothing downchanges using heel & toe over the last few years, but the throttle seems to go dead when braking in my new vRS!

I'm guessing it must be some kind of "safety" feature but is there anything that can be "tweaked" to remedy this?

Thanks in advance!

It's standard across most drive-by-wire cars.

I also noticed difficulties in using a heel and toe technique. Sometimes I can blip the engine as I approach a corner braking and down changing simultaneously and sometimes I cant do it properly. Is this because it depends on brake pressure as to whether the accelerator blip is acted upon ? I thought it was just me being rubbish at it , although Ive being doing it for years and years. However in some cars its near impossible to do due to the pedal position.

I guess it could be a safety feature for someone doing an emergency stop and who has pressed the accelerator as well - stops the engine being damaged through over-revving maybe.

Best bet, is to just blip the throttle with the clutch down and slowly release the clutch, or double-de-clutch :)

It has been discussed on here before and as mentioned it's a safety feature with all VAG cars with drive-by-wire throttles. It can not be disabled. This means not only can you not "Heel and Toe" nor can you "Left Foot Brake"

i have been led to believe this can be disabled by removing the brake light switch, however i have not seen it work, hope this helps

How would people know if you were braking if you did? It would fail an MOT and be very dangerous if you did this!!

Can't see the point of it TBH, where's the safety benefit ?

left foot brakings an **** in the fabia but if i remem rightly i have my foot on the accelerator then brake with the left foot which cuts the power and with left foot still braking come off the happy pedal the back on to brake and accelerate at the same time!

all in very quick succession of course!
