pulsing throttle - a fix...?

Featured Replies

It's a while since I've logged in, so sorry if this is old or obvious or just irrelevant. :)

I remember people complaining that the idle on the 1.8T occys never seemed to run smooth, and other suggesting it was just one of those Occy things that no-one understood.

My own 1.8t kept bouncing her revs between about 500 and 1500, and the dealers just shrugged.

Well, today the engine management light came on. In it went and they um-ed and ah-ed and ignored my phone calls like Vindis seem to do. Anyway, when it came out they'd decided to fix the problem instead of just investigating it. The throttle body was coked up so whatever moving parts they stick in throttles nowadays couldn't get to its rest point.

A quick date with a decoking agent, or a wire brush or a hammer or somesuch, and the engine light has gone out and (more importantly) the idling revs are nailed to 750. Not a ****ing twitch.

And she's gained a mpg point too.

[ Should it be possible to get 36mpg out of an estate 1.8t when drive like a **** with a new toy? :) ]

So, yeah... maybe that'll help someone. :)
