First off, The fascia adaptor (That type) needs to go in first,

Then the mounting cage, Bending tabs as appropriate to secure.

Connect the stereo and feed the cabling up or down (Theres loads of space above the stereo, Behind the switches)

If you can get the cars wiring up there the stereos harness should be easily accommodated in the remaining space.

Job done and no hacking away at the gubbins of the dash!

I had to cut out part of the plastic at the back of the stereo hole. There's two supporting struts that hold the part that the rubber bung on the back of the standard headunit fits into. I cut the left one of those out to make extra room for the RCA's. I also had to trim down the ridges on the top of the cubby hole to get everything to fit right but that was just for ease IIRC.

thats what i did , used the same little bit of snapped in half hacksaw to cut the back plate out, loads of room now and all fite perfect....

mikesm56...theres no room on top of the stereo mate, cutting the back plastic case out works perfect.

Theres loads of room behind there mate no need to cut any thing just pull out the cubby hole under the stereo, put the stereo in and gently replace the cubby again, PUT THE HACKSAW BLADE AWAY!!!

Would also help if the security cage was fitted, would mean that once its in, it wont come away easy. There is plenty of space, its just a bit boring and annoying trying to tuck all the wires away, the previous owner obviously didn't give a crap about the way it worked or having it nicked. Also is that masking tape holding the remote wire in place!?

Yeah, when I was fitting my CD changer, what I found was that I had to put all the wiring BEHIND the back plate thing, and then pull the connectors through. Then, if you're careful putting the HU back in, the slack in the cables will get pushed back behind the back plate, and you'll have a nice neat fit...

On my octavia I found it very useful to take out the glovebox when I fitted my new HU as it meant I could get my hand in behind the HU and pull the wires out of the way. Don't know if it's the same on the Fabia though.

I shall be doing this tonight. Dont think I will bother taking out the glove box, just the little cubby hole under the stereo

Didn't look too bad in there, fair bit of room to work. My old car was a bitch to get things back in as you had to take the whole centre console out :(

On the octavia you have to put the cubby hole back before the stereo so I just got an extra of room by taking out the glovebox.

Couple of things, using the Skoda facia adapter (about £2.50 from your dealer) along with the original radio security cage will save a lot of grief, that autoleads thing just does not fit very well and will creak and rattle. The glovebox is only held in by a few screws, so dead easy to remove in a few mins, that will enable you to get your hands in behind the headunit to position the cables out of harms way as you push the headunit back.

And I'll repeat, Above the stereo and behind the switches there's a cavernous space, About enough to get a Parrot blue tooth box and loom into!

I'll second that. Theres loads of room got my parrot Bluetooth kit and the 3 million miles of cabling that comes with it behind the switches.

If you've not already done it, here's how to take the glovebox out - 5 minutes' work...

Oh, and a :+1: on getting the Skoda fascia adaptor - the only reason my Autoleads one didn't go back as 'not fit for the purpose intended' is that I have a Polo cupholder in the top slot and an Octavia HU in the bottom one, so NONE of the bits in the middle of my dash match!

Ill also Plus 1 on the Dealer fascia panel, its a lot cheper and actually matches the rest of the dash trim, the Halfrauds ones areabsolute horse ****.

on the original problem- There is no need to cut this plastic piece out ,it holds the radio up at the rear.Make sure you are not trapping any connector or wire between the rear of the radio, and the front face of the plastic piece which has the locating hole in it.

When I took my radio out, I noticed you needed to place the wires etc in the spaces on both sides of this plastic piece. I thought all recent radios of any make are all the same depth?.
