whistling when fans on 3 and 4

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Recently I've noticed that I get an annoying whistling noise like a loose belt or squeeky fan or something from the passenger side behind the glovebox when the fans are on 3 or 4?

Any ideas?

Me too, sounds like a leaf stuck somewhere as it doesn't blow properly, not a belt noise though, just a funny whistle...

Might just be some debris, but doubtful unless the pollen filter is missing. Does the recirc button work OK? Could be blower motor bearing starting to go.

The pollen filter is located down there, its quiet possible and has been known for debris to get stuck in this area and cause the sound you describe.

funny you mention the recirc button actually, sometimes I press it and it takes 2-3 seconds to light up, same to go off, could this be linked?

There is a slight delay while the flap motor does it's thing. As long as the sound of the air moving through the system really speeds up when recirc operates, then the flap motor and associated gubbins will be OK. If the air speed doesn't increase when recirc pressed, stuck flap motor.

If the pollen filter isnt fitted properly, it whistles a bit. Might be worth checking that

how do you access the pollen filter?

It's in the passenger footwell, you need a rubber neck and eyes on stalks to unclip it.

DONT TURN ON THE FAN WHEN THE FILTER IS OFF.

Oh go on then do, but be prepared to vacuum your car later....

lol :)
