Buyers question Octavia 1.9TDi

Featured Replies

Am new to this site, but hope someone can help with a buyers question

I've been to see one today, a 2006 Octavia 1.9TDi PD Ambiente, it's done a few more miles than I'd have liked (near 60,000), its only had one owner but the sevicing seems to be a bit sparse although it looks as though its a 2 year service schedule? The tempter is the dealers offering what seems a great deal (~£5500).

I'd be grateful if anyone had any thoughts particularly on what I should look out for on this model / age.

5.5k, its a steal, 60k is nothing, these engines last even if you do not change the oil.

Skoda Octavia Ambiente

1.9TD Diesel 5-door Hatchback

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2006 06

Mileage: 60,000

Estimated value of your car

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition:

£5660

Average condition:

£5050

Below average condition:

£4440

So a dealer selling one for £5.5k seems not bad at all.

It should have had three services by now - if it hasn't , that may be why it's cheap

Mines on 133k and going well :)

if the engine did go pop, there's 100's in breakers.

the only real problem we face with Skodas in Latvia is extreme bad paint quality. and may be also zinc is not as good as done with Audi. Imo painting quality and further rust waranty will be a bad hello to skoda in very near future. Lucky skoda waranty on paint is 3 year or so.So look at places where dirt from front wheels especially is coming onto painted surface as there you could find quite large naked metal surfaces of already peeled off paint.

well this might be not so dramatic in UK as sand and gravel is not applied in winters.

Thanks all, think I'll go back and have another look, fingers crossed!

if it helps

i just picked up a octavia elegance 2.0 fsi. for £5000, 42k on the clock. 2005.

i'd imagine the diesels will go for more..

I found that the paint chips easily, each time I wash the car I find new stone chips,my previous Felicia was white compared to the stone grey of the Octavia maybe that's why it's more visible but in my opinion I still think the paint is thin on the Octavia, other than that I've had the car for two months now,26k on the clock and encountered no faults so far,During the three years on the road the car only had it's annual services plus a clutch/flywheel replacement due to a fault in the flywheel springs snapping.

2 year servicing is normal. As standard from the factory the cars have a variable interval which equates to a max of 18K miles or 2 years. They can be switched to a more regular 10K oil change by the dealer altering a setting in the cars computer.

My 2005 2.0TDi is now on 81K miles, and has been into the dealer 4 times now for a service, with its next one due at around 95K or so.

Had a few misgivings about the original one, service / cam belt change required was pushing the budget a bit.

We've now gone for an 03 equivalent, 60K and in much better condition, very happy with it so far. So thanks everyone for their input.

Been browsing the forums on rear parking sensors, very useful info and have decided to give it a go with some from E-bay. Think we'll need them, the Octavias much bigger than our old Puegot 106!:D
