Baggy front end

Featured Replies

Hi people,

My Mk1 octy vRS is starting to feel a little loose and baggy on the front end. Also it seems to knock a little over poorer surfaces and i detect a slight weave under hard braking coupled with slight tramlining. It's a 2004 model with 65k. It also sqeaks on rebound when going over speed bumps.

I'm thinking worn wishbone bushes and maybe ARB bushes too. Any wisdom gratefully accepted along with suitable advice on where to get replacement parts if necessary.

Cheers people

hi mate, could be front arb sleeves/bushes(these are common and can be either diy repaired look on the search field), wishbone bushes or front suspension shocks and or springs.....to name a few, doing ALL of my stuff at the mo as i figure i might as well do it properly!

Try http://www.vwspares.co.uk/ for parts, if you are doing the wishbones (not a bad idea with your mileage which is similar to mine) then fit the tt bushes as they are heavier duty and less flawed than the poly bushes.

Mine used to do exactly the same, I got a new pair of FARB bushes (around £5 from a local independent supplier) and bashed em in! Problem sorted!

Can the wishbone bushes be done diy or do they have to be cut out/pressed in? Does either of you guys have part no. for audi tt bushes as i have heard off this upgrade b4?

Cheers Jim

Do you use the TT front and rear wishbone bushes or is it just the rear one?

I'm in the process of replacing shocks all round at the moment and am wondering if it's worth doing all the bushes at the same time too!

Having just done F&R wishbone bushes on my 41k mile Octy Mk1 with powerflex bushes (with a powerflex dog bone mount thrown in for good measure) I can safely say it makes a HUGE difference to the handling (and the powerflex bushes were dead easy to press back in using a vice)

All in, they cost me just under £100...

Its only the rear one you can use, as the front one is a different size on a TT.

The front mount doesnt usually cause too many problems, as there isnt alot of movement on the standard ones.

The main difference with the TT rear mount is that it doesnt have the two slots cut through it, its basically just solid rubber.

When the TT first came out it did actually have the same mount as the Octavia, but where there was that problem with people flipping them over at high speed in Germany, and this was one of the bits they changed and fitted as part of the recall.
