What are the issues of fitting an MFD2 in an mk1 Ocatavia?

Is it the size of the unit/housing or is it more of a compatability/electronic issue?

Have a VW MFD already fitted but want to upgrade to an MFD2 mainly for iPod and handsfree/bluetooth reasons but also for improved user friendly satnav.

Has anyone done this or even tried to do it?

It's nearly impossible. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but it's close. Certainly not wothout an intimate working knowledge of Blaupunkt and CAN systems anyway.

Also - it may not look like it, but it's effectively the same unit as the MFD. They use almost identical maps and they share the same basic issues. Only the very latest ones played audio from the built-in CD reader for example.

The screen is nicer and TMC is built-in. Those are about the only benefits.

So its a compatiabilty issue then.

Not to worry I will stick with what i've got. Just wanted something that doesnt look as dated but if its effectively the same system features and visual wise theres not much point trying to overcome a mass of problems.

I will look into iPod control and bluetooth. See if anything is available. I think Dension have something that might work for the ipod but bluetooth handsfree might have to be a parrot kit or something.
