Black plasic trim revitalization with heat-gun

Featured Replies

Sorry if it is a re-post. It's very practical on textured parts...

just remember to be very careful doing this! it does have potential to go wrong!

Reckon this'd work on the plastic at the bottom of a Fabia's windscreen? Mine's terrible! Gave a little thought to painting it with some hammerite at one point... (rattle can, naturally) ;)

Seems a little risky, whats wrong with trim wax?

i personally wouldnt do it on somewhere so close to the windscreen unless you took it off the car.

it does work well as i did it to my mums clio and worked a treat but it can go wrong so you need to be careful is all.

Heard a few people mention this never actually seen it being done. Think i'd rather take the plastic off the car first wouldn't want too risk damaging the paintwork. Does this work with a hairdryer seems a little less brutal.

hairdryer wont get it hot enough.

looks like it is melting the top layer of plastic to me, it would be interesting to test on something other than my car.

yup this is exactly what is happening.

only works on recycled plastics afaik. i do it with a blow torch as i dont have a heat gun, never had a problem. i tried it on a corsa before i scrapped it to see how easy it is to damage the plastic with the blowtorch and whilest its not instant as you would expect after a few seconds delay damage is not repairable so be carefull!
