Could Skoda do this??/

TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - Support home - Select your product

If Skoda could do this it would help, it could fit in the cuby hole on top of the dash and be integrated with the radio, so you hear it through the speakers, then just put the lid down when you leave the car it should be made available for all owners I would pay £200 now for one all that would be required is changeing the draw and wireing it up about 10 mins work

Would be good if they can, I use that area for the my TomTom anyway but if Skoda comes up with a more permanent fixture I certainly will be interested . I was reading the other day some French Manufacturer is fitting the tomtom into there cars, hence your link.

The Seat Ibiza has that on the option list :)

The Toyota Yaris also has a slot for a portable TomTom satnav (at least on the top of the range model).

I know it's nicer to have a SatNav integrated into the dashboard but I fail to see how manufacturers can justify the price of them when you can buy a portable unit for less than a tenth of the cost and which also has the advantage that you can take it with you.

No doubt like radios and AirCon they'll be fitted as standard to most cars eventually.

It's [email protected] but I e-mailed them enquiring about the CO2 level differences between the 1.4TSI with and without the DSG box and they didn't reply.

You could ask these guys:

Vw Golf In-dash Sat Nav

PS you are still better off with an MFD3 by the way ;)

They have poor apostrophe use...

I think the point is getting missed here??

What I would like to see is a Skoda mod on the central compartment which is deeper, with a couple of internally fixtures that fits a portable sat nav like a TomTom and to be secure. I have 3 cars at home, the others are driven by females...Nooo not saying all women, before we go down that route.......but they tend to get lost very easily and they find the sat-nav great and easy to use to get back again. Cant afford build-in ones on all cars like many others on here, I go for the simplest and practical option.....yer I know get rid of the women that practical.....no but thats not an option :D:D

Sat Nav and bluethooth should be standard in all vehicles, bluetooth especially with the law the way it is with using mobile phones whilst driving.

I can't see Skoda fitting a TomTom satnav if they think they can persuade people to spend well over a grand on the integrated one they have now.

What they charge for one is OTT and it does not have blue tooth or speed cameras

The columbus is not just a satnav, but a full featured multimedia entertainment system. You get a 30GB Hard drive for music storage, DVD playback, Satnav, Radio, TMC, Can add a TV tuner, Video in/out, full ipod control via MDI, can plug in external HD via MDI, proper bluetooth controlled by the headunit and so on. If purchased from ebay the current price of £600 is a bargain.

I like tomtoms, but show me a tomtom that works properly in a tunnel. The columbus works even underground with no gps reception via ABS sensors and steering angle sensor input. During my recent trip to spain, driving on the M30 (proper motorway built under madrid) with a tomtom I would have got lost. The columbus got me through to the correct exit without getting lost.

Dont think that they would want to commit to BT in all cars as there are calls by some organisations to ban mobile use in cars completely, hands free or not.

Also, some people dont need Satnav, so why should they pay extra for it just to get in the way. And when it comes to selling the car, if it hasnt been updated, which is likely if they have not used it, the buyer will use that as a bargaining tool to reduce the price. So the initial buyer would lose out twice!

The cradle is in the Ibiza only I believe (correct me if I'm wrong!) as the Leon and Exeo would be current standard and previous standard VAG fits respectively.

I would like to see a TomTom cradle as an option on the Fabia, and Skoda's version of the VW up!, which fits in with the small car feel, and where it's not really appropriate to spend 10% of the value of the car on sat nav!

I would just buy a columbus if i had to use that tunnel! My god.... The Alps ones are just a simple tunnels with no off ramps etc. There is more about it at Autopista de Circunvalación M-30 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorry i know getting a bit OT now

James.

Tomtom arent German ;)

I spoke too soon as I received a reply yesterday and they confirmed that the CO2 output is 148g/Km, not 154g/km as previously stated (and still does on the Skoda UK website). They haven't (as yet) reduced the OTR price by the £25 saving in Road tax though.
