Ceiling lamp button problem, how to remove?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

yesterday i've found the button the turn the ceiling lights one popped off . It's quite strange i know. I've tried to put it back but the small piece of metal (the real interrupt or a kind of electrical bridge) where the button gets attached moved around inside the ceiling lamp.

Now the lamp do not turn on when i open the door, i think that is like the NO LIGHTS position is ON. I've also checked the boot lamp and now it does not work too...is it normal?? I've checked the fuse and is ok (number 36 referring to the fuse card is it right???)

I've tried to remove the ceiling lamp with no luck.

Here's some pics of what i've managed to do....

Can anyone help me please??

I'm sure there are 2 screws that hold it in as well, looks like they are shown in your second picture beside the bulb that is centre of the unit.

Picture is out off focus - I might be wrong?

:+1: Yup, those two black holes have screws in them... may be torx head though.

Just normal philips on mine, guessing its gonna be the same across the range.

Is it just those, or is there something else holding it in there? I ask cos I tried to remove mine, managed to unscrew them, then got stuck, got cross and gave up.

Ok guys thanks, i'll check it later. If there are two screws, i'm completely blinded :P:rofl::rofl:

Ok i'm blinded :\ ... I've managed to remove the ceiling lamp (the two screws were right there).

But now i don't know how to fix it. I've got the button and the small metal piece

So what now? I know that the metal part goes up and the button inserts into the little hole. Can anyone show me a picture of its lamp? I can't fix the metal part that should be the real switch?

It's also quite strange that letting it touch the other metal clips nothing happens....

Can anyone confirm that the courtesy lamp fuse is the number 36???

If you put the button to NO LIGHTS position, do the light inside the bonnet turn on??

Thanks a lot

Help :( .... Any advice or suggestions ???

Does anybody know the right fuse to check??

If this fault occurs it can blow a fuse for the convenience control unit. Does the central locking still work?

Yes it does. WHere's this fuse? Do you remeber the number?

Thanks

F4 in the haynes guide. its 10A

I know this because I was JUST doing what you have been doing, and managed to blow the fuse. Decided I'm going back to my hidden butchered screw into the switch to keep it on the right setting method until I can source a new light, its not repairable for me

Ok Guys thanks for your help. The F4 fuse was broken as i suspected. I replaced it and managed to stuck the button with the metal small clip in the right position. Seems it's working fine for now. I don't really know how to fix the button in a better way but it's fine for me, i had never moved the button :P

Cheers

I broke mine recently, and once the metal plate was bent roughly into place, we used a piece of plastic (from a youghurt pot) folded over on itself stuck inside the slider to tension it again. Works as new now.

Great thing...but how? Did you put it between the the hole and the clip or on the top of the metal clip?

Hope this helps.

To start with, rebend the copper bit so that the contacts touch and work properly.

Then fold a tiny piece of plastic in half so if forms a < shaped spring. This was then stuck onto the back of the pictured piece - the slider that you use.
