Is This The Correct Outlet For The Catch Can Mod

Featured Replies

Evening All,

I've been trying to research whether anyone has done a catch can mod on their PD 170.

The nearest i've found is on an Altea

Oil Catch Can fitted - SEAT Cupra.net - SEAT Forum

I've been out inspecting the set-up on the octy. I removed the recirculatory pipe that runs from the top of the rocker cover, to the air intake pipe just before the Turbo.

I looked to see whether there was any residue of oil, and it was full of it !

This oil is being forced into the cylinder and burnt during the combustion cycle... Is it any wonder that they need a Particulate Filter !!!

Anyway. I'm itching to know has anyone done this mod on their PD 170. Or could anyone in the know advise as to whether or not there needs to be a vacuum created by the turbo to suck the vapours / gas from the rocker cover.

Could i just place a catch can inbetween the outlet of the rocker cover and the inlet of the air intake.

Or maybe i could do some VTA (Vent To Atmosphere) that has been done on the older PD's (110,130 )

Please see attached photo's below of the pipe in question.

Hope to get a good disussion going here about the topic.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

sadly I didn't, but I investigated a bit.

Basically yes, right as Altea Guy.

Or maybe i could do some VTA (Vent To Atmosphere) that has been done on the older PD's (110,130 )

Sadly not, as it seems our ECU expects to have some (hot, sooty and oily) air flow contribution from the pipe..., with the catch can you get this air colder and cleaner.
