IIRC VW used to name their cars after wind systems. Whether this is true or not I don't know. The Bora is still called the Jetta in the US due to the fact that the Bora sounded like Bore too much.

Yep, the Golf Saloons are all named after winds. Jetta, Vento and Bora are all types of wind (Bora was also used by Maserati and owned the copyright for use on cars until VW brought it off them).
