12v aerial wire permantly line!

Featured Replies

I am trying to fit a new stereo to out 2000 fabia. I have swapped over the red and orange wire so the memory stays but the stereo switched off when the key is removed. I am now trying to resolve the aerial booster. The white wire on the booster I thought would connect to the orange/white aerial wire on the stereo but this is live all the time. Can I scotch lock it on to the orange wire for the radio power that's only on when the key is in. No other wire seems to be off the the key is out.

Cheers

Are you slicing the wires on the original loom or a ISO adapter?

I ask because on ISO adapters orange is an illumination power source and yellow is the ignition power source.

As for power to the aerial booster? I'd probably connect this to the switched Ignition power lead.

I'm not clear enough on what your doing though so better if you wait for someone to confirm :)

I am talking about the wires direct on the stereo and not the car loom. On the stereo the the 12v aerial is orange and white which is always live. The only wire that's not always live it the power to the unit its self which I why I thought I could connect it straight to the booster as it just requires power?

If you use an ISO adaptor, then you dont need to worry about figuring it all out ;)

This is probably not the way to do it with hindsight but pretty sure I got the aerial booster powered off the remote power line! I think you're right, do it off the switched live. Doesn't matter where as long as you do it securely so no loose connections.

PS how do these work? Is it some form of phantom power or something?

yes kind of, but they dont run at 48v like phantom power does, it's a kind of pre-amp which filters out a lot of the backgorund rubbish.... i'm struggling to understand what it is you are doing, a diagram would be handy
