Just a quick question, that might have many answers!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi

I thought I would ask and see what answers I get...

Right what is the best way to get a VRS off the line? I've tried how I used to do it in my Rover Diesel and it doesn't work that well. So how do I blow that Saxo driver sat at the lights next to me away?(On a private track of course :D )

My car is standard and with the later gearing (I think)

My next question is does a modded car require a different approach?

Thanks

TBH, you're in the wrong car to begin with.

A diesel is not about 0-60 or 1/4 times, it's about in-gear accelaration & torque.

But saying that, the best way is as normal, but don't hold onto the revs. I always shift up around 3000rpm so you can make use of the peak torque.

I find the quickest way is to get it rolling in 1st and then change into 2nd early and floor it. Will pull nice and strongly and you won't just sit spinning the wheels/fighting the traction control or bouncing off the rev limiter as quickly as you would in 1st ;) Then change up between 3-3.5k and keep it on the torque :D

I know our cars aren't about 0 to 60 times or standing quarters, I was just asking how the best way to get of the line if a prat in a Saxo starts reving next to you (At Santa Pod, Honestly) I used to be able to get my Rover Diesel to surprise many people at the lights in much better cars but I haven't perfected the launch technique on the Furby yet. I was just after some pointers.

use the clutch a little more and bring the power on fairly gently. But for sure dont keep it in 1st that long just use that as a quick launch, then power it with 2nd. If you get it right few car will beat it off the line thanks to all that touque!

Have to say I dont bother with the saxo and like rubbish anymore, it's not worth me wasting my diesel! Merc's are my favourite victim of and don't forget the old faithfull BMW :D though I have surprised a few porkers
