Blowers only work on top setting

Featured Replies

My mums Fabia 1.9TDi has a little problem.

The heater/blowers do not blow unless its on the top setting, any other setting she gets no air!

Any ideas people?

Think the resistor pack has failed.. Not sure, more info will be found using the search facility.. and prob a guide on how to change out the faulty part :)

:+1:

+2, the resistor pack has failed.

Yes, the resistor pack has failed.

If your confident with a set of tools, i would also remove the blower fan. Which on the Mk2 octavia's twists and pulls out, and check how tight the bearings are and how much dirt is sat in the windings.

My Octy Mk2 kept on blowing the resistor packs, when i removed mine the windings within the motor were full of dirt and the bearings were pretty tight and looked rusty on the external surfaces.

I took the bottom cover away from the motor to gain access to the bottom bearing, which i lubricated along with the top bearing with a product called tri flow. Any good oil (not WD-40 or Duck Oil though) should be sufficient.

I also used some choke cleaner to blow the dirt out of the windings, so far so good...the fan is far more efficient.

On the fabia, this resistor pack is above and behind the central dash area. I have a vague memory it can be accessed by removing the glovebox and squeezing a hand in from the left side of the dash, behind/above the radio area. Is a simple 4 branch resistor with a plug on the end. :)
