Another Water Leak

Featured Replies

I know its not the first time that an Octavia’s has had a water leak, but it can be a real puzzle how it gets in under behind my feet (drivers side). I have had to take up the packing under the carpet because it is dripping wet. I cannot see how it can get in through the door without wetting the door frame, the Scoda dealer says that it could be the windscreen because the trim is coming away at the bottom outside, the windscreen replacement company say that this is just cosmetic and not a seal. I will try to spray with a hose and see if this makes any sense of how the water is getting in. Has anyone any suggestions?

This reminds me of my old days with my Mini, the water used to eventually stink. I never had any problems with any car since, makes me disappointed with the Scoda.

I would suggest the drainage from the scuttle pannel/bulkhead are blocked (they drain down the back of the front wheel arches - easy enough to clear out, just undo a few torx screws and pull the plastic liner forward adn extra a large pile of composted leaves). Part of the wiring loom comes in through the drivers side bulkhead so you could be getting water ingress via that route, or the bonnet release cable is also routed though in a similar place.

mine had a leak in the same place as yours and it was the rubber bung for the bonnet release cable if thats any good to you just fitted a new one 3.06 p from the dealers

Thanks. I cleaned the drain tube, there was a few leaves not a lot, I also put Denso tape around the bonnet cable bung. It seemed a lot of water for a small opening, I squirted with water and could not reproduce the leak. I will have to wait and see with the next rain, should'nt be long

I gave the car a clean yesterday and a good hosing down, at present there is no leak. Still waiting for rain (would you believe it)

I would say that a lot more Octavia’s have this fault and need checking out, as I first thought it was dampness from my feet, the carpet seems prevent most of the water rising through. It was not apparent how much water was there until I removed the bottom trim from the sill under the door, removed the clutch foot rest and stop under the accelerator and lifted the carpet, which is difficult because it is fitted. I cut the underlay along by the tunnel to remove and dry out. I think the water had dripped in over a period of time and collected.

Disappointment, the rain still found its way in last night, even though the pressure hose did not. I do not now think it is the bonnet catch cable entry. I was wondering if I could paint the area by the cable seal and electrical connector with roof sealer inside the wiper chamber, will it attack the rubber?

I can see the water dripping in below the bonnet catch lever and running down, I removed a piece of brown tape which revealed a 12mm hole right in the corner going through to the inside of the sill, it appears to be part of the manufacture, the water from the leak is now running back out in to this hole which is in the exact position, (some cunning design here) at least it has a way out and will not build up, so I will have another look in the wiper scuttle pannel when the weather is dry, I need to remove the trim inside which has the bonnet lever located, had problems with this previously.

To keep you up to date in case this happens to other Octavia owners. I had the windscreen replaced today, apparently it cannot be removed without breaking it. Down the RH side there was about 100 mm of the sealing compound between the glass that had not adhered to the body, and eventually leaked. They said that as the windscreen had not been replaced before, it was like this from new (bad workmanship). I still need rain again to check it before replacing the underlay and trims, but I am confident that this is now fixed.

I'm having the same problem, did the windscreen fix it?
