Flat Bottom Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

As per title, is it possible to fit one to the fabia vRS?

One possibly from an Audi? or an aftermarket one?

If so, is it much hassle what with air bags etc?

Cheers

I'm not sure how relevant it is to the Fabia, but I was able to retro-fit the paddle shift multi-function steering wheel from a Mk5 Golf GTI onto my DSG Passat (which had the non-paddle shift multi-function wheel from the factory) with no trouble at all. As long as the technician doing the work knows about disassembling the steering wheel airbag (you have to make it safe) it's not hard at all, and they all seem to be the same airbag unit.

The flat-bottom thing is seriously poo on a road car in my opinion. It might be great in a car with 1 turn from lock to lock, but on a normal road-car with 2-4 turns lock to lock, it's much harder to feed the wheel naturally when you come to the flat-spot.

In hindsight, I wouldn't bother.

MK4 Golf Steering wheels will go in no problem! ;)

What's the flat bottom for anyway?

Gives the drivers legs more room in low cars, I'd guess

Now see, that's what I thought but guessed that it MUST have been something more than that or why would it be such a popular after market mod.. (and i'm sure some cars are made with them)..

I'm guessing it's no different to chrome exhausts trim in that respect then. They do look quite cool ;)

What ya really want is an Allegro's square wheel!

I think it's just the look, I for one love a flat bottomed steering wheel but wouldn't go so far as to replace one unless I needed a new steering wheel anyway.

Or you had a DSG car with no flappy paddles?

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean Mr WJA. What I'm saying is that I like the look of the flat bottomed steering wheel but would never fit one to my fabia unless it needed a new steering wheel / drivers airbag anyway :)

Sorry, what I meant was that I wouldn't have bought one either, but I wanted flappy paddles and the Golf R32 one was the first one that came up on ebay at a sensible price.
