Gearbox dripping

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

Now I have the car running sweet, I want to address the dripping gearbox. I'm not totally 100% sure yet, but I think it may be coming from the selector shaft area. I stuck my head under the car the other day and noticed that the rubber gator was missing. It allegedly had a new clutch fitted just before I bought it.

Anyway I spotted THIS Gear selector shaft oil seal.

If it is this. Does anyone know if it's easy to fit or is a gearbox out job?

Cheers.

you should be able to change that in the car, you need to take the gear linkage off at the gearbox end.

That's what I was hoping. Cheers. Will try and have a proper look this weekend.

Haynes tells us you *have* to renew the roll pin on the linkage after removing it, not sure if that's true as Haynes tells us to renew everything :)

LoL, true. Also helps if everything is out on the bench with Haynes too.

Do you need to put the car in any gear before disconnecting the linkage to ease the re-assembly?

I would put the car into third gear to allow the most movement of the linkage and to be able to get it off. As long as you put the linkage back in straight there shouldn't be a problem.

In regards to the roll pin... it is a VERY tight fit so I didn't bother renewing it...I just hammered a small screwdriver into the centre to open it up a bit so it was nice and tight to go back in. There should be a jubille clip round it anyway to keep it in position (there isn't on mine but there should be).

Phil
