In basic terms....engine re-map....

Featured Replies

The local VAG specialist around me (Hull) are charging £200 for a remap on a Octy VRS.

They say it will increase BHP from 180 to 205 and Torque from 235 to 300. What difference would I notice? I have turbo lag at the moment would that smooth it out? Does it cause any problems to the car with a remap? Does the clutch need upgrading with the torque increase?

You shouldn't notice much turbo lag on a standard engine and turbo - is it standard or has it had other stuff done to it?

Sounds cheap to me.

I'm quite pleased with my Revo although it was alot of money (especially after having to replace all the coil packs within a week of getting it done)

Maybe I'm just never satisfied but other people seem more impressed with the performance now than I do.

They should check for any issues before doing the map. The starting point for a remap IMO should be a 100% health car and they shouldn't be used to cure issues as they will merely mask the problem.

The power increase seems believeable for a generic map, and the price seems too low for a custom.

the power seems right for generic but the tourqe figure is fiction. A basic postal generic can be had for as little as £99 which will give about 205-220 depending on the individual engine. You will not need a clutch imediately for this level of power/tourqe but the increase WILL put more strain on things so it may highlight things like weak coilpacks, DV etc. If the cost included a DV upgrade to 007P then it would be good.

dont mention clutch :thumbdwn:, mine slipped all the way up the strip at santa pod last weekend

I think I know the VAG specialist that Pepperman is talking about in Hull. If it's who I think it is, I think they quote their torque figures in Nm rather than lbf ft. Would that explain why it looks different to what you would expect? (300Nm = 221lbf ft).

I must admit I had thought about getting my vRS mapped by them as the price seems reasonable from what I've seen for generics and they have always done a good job of looking after my car.

were you bouncing off the limiter before launch? or did you try and feed it in?

Pepperman: Did you get your Octy remapped in Hull in the end? I would be interested to see how it went if you did.

A remap is only as good as your car.

If your car is 100% tip top running order then you remap will make a huge diffrence.

If you have a laggy car now and underlaying issues then a remap could make them worse. You need to get the vac line, boost pipes and DV checked out 1st, then the PCV breather system and MAF all of which would / could be fine running stock power but when running a remap power with upto 18psi of boost could cause running issues and make the remap seem bad.

if your clutch is on its way out the remap will finish it of for sure.

A good spec1 remap should pin you back in your seat right up to the redline, a poor remap give raally aggresive down low and the power will tail off higher up the rev range where you need it. But saying there are some people that favor the low down power spike, it feels really good but dont make the car that much faster.

i held it at about 4k and dumped the clutch:thumbdwn:

did the other 3 runs with a slow start, hence my best time being 15.8:mad:

If your going to kill a clutch its going to be at santa pod. 3 years back I to my 350bhp 4x4 calibra turbo there and the clutch slipped on the 1st run.. next show I had a 5 paddle clutch fitted which was fine until the 3 launch when the transfer box exploded, My 0-60ft times where some of the fastest that year and now I know why..lol

Pepperman. Just a quick check to see whether you'd had your car mapped as planned? If so, are you happy with it?

Thinking of maybe taking mine to Ricci Concept (I assume this is who you were talking about?) shortly to be remapped, so if you've got any feedback it would be handy.

I believe that there is now a place in Hull that does RevoTechnik maps, but they do seem rather expensive.
