Felicia gearbox oil (changing) sparkplug replacement

Featured Replies

I have a glorious 97 Felicia estate 1.3 Glxi the problem I'm having is that I feel that the gearbox oil needs changing but I have no idea were to start (my last car was a P.O.S automatic and diesel) also sparkplugs how do I get at them? Thanks in Advance to anyone who can help.

I've a 1.3mpi and to get at the sparkplugs it's a case of disconnecting the battery, unplugging the coil, undoing the 2 retaining screws with an allen key, lifting off the coil bit and using a 10mm socket to get the sparkplugs out

I'd have thought a 97 Felicia would be SPI hence just HT cables needing removal?!

Gearbox oil there's a drain bolt underneath the drive shaft on the passenger side. It is on the vertical side, not the bottom (there are other bolts so don't undo the wrong one). Oil is filled through the hole vacated by the speedo drive gear. This is removed by undoing the 9mm bolt then sliding the U retainer out and pulling it upwards with the cable attached to it. I found the best way to direct oil into the hole is to buy two of those funnels with long bendy bits on the end. Take one long bendy bit off and put this into the hole, then get your other one and but the end of that in the top. I think the total amount of oil is about 2.5 litres, but basically using the speedo drive gear as a dipstick it should be something like 1cm up from the bottom.

Sorry to sound dumb but where is the speedo drive gear is it under the car or like my exmoggie minor can I reach from inside the cab. Thanks again for any info received

There's a cable from the bulkhead where the instrument panel inside the car is, and this goes to a place on top of the gearbox. Best reached from the top.
