What’s the difference between the FR and CUPRA 00-05 150bhp?

I'm contemplating the Mazda 6 D Sport - 2.2 litres, 185ps, 400nm and still gets over 50mpg (officially).

Might be some time before you can get one for less than 15k though :)

Just spec, Cupra looks better - different wheels, front bumper and nice Brembos.

Did the FR succeed the Cupra in the old range? Or somethign like that? A guy at work has a Leon FR 150. It came as standard with a Cupra body kit according to him.

No, the Cupra/FR is the same thing. The only changes are, pre-facelift Cupra's came with 312mm. Whilst the facelift versions look better, have 288mm (same as vRS Fabia) but updated wheels (17's over the 16's before) then the FR, again just styling really, different style 17's, exhaust etc.

Then finally the FR+ which came with the Cupra R bumpers, 17' Cupra R style wheels (very similar the the Ibiza Cupra 17's found on the MK4 but not!)

So basically overall difference performance is 312mm on the really earlier ones, then 288mm after. The rest is just styling and wheels (interior too obv.)

what about the sporthatch astra SRi CDTi (150 bhp)? really nice looking car! but that not that much quicker than a standard vRS in its standard state but they map nicely to 200bhp!

Seat Leon FR/Cupra's 150 & 170's, Golf GTD's and the A3 also get my vote.

This engine is also in the new mazda 3. Saloon or hatch, similar in size to others you mention. Might be a little while before you can get an ex-demo or used for that sort of money.

As you might not have seen one of these yet:

how often would it need a software update?

well the new ones, when ever the car is in for something new like a abs control unit for example it checks what level of software is in the vehicle and will program the vehicle up to the same software level as the new control unit, if you get me?.
