VRS wont start - help please.

Featured Replies

2005 Fabia VRS wont start.

Worked fine until parked up about 1 hr ago. Went to restart it. Engine turns over on the starter but wont run - have ABS and TCS warning lights illuminated - nothing else. (it dosent have ESP) . According to the manual, the lights indicate that there is a fault with the ABS/braking system. But why wont it start ?

Any help gratefully received as my son has to get to Lowestoft from B'Ham in it today !

could be any 1 ov many things...obvious ones to check are..it has got fuel and fuel pump...

Check fuse links on top of battery.

Ive had the Recovery chaps out to it (part of the Adrian Flux insurance). They spent quite along time interogating the car and came to the conclusion that the ECU was at fault and it would probably need replacing and said that a dealer will charge about £1000 for this to be done.

Car has been recovered back to my house as its a sunday.

I shall ring around for some quotes tomorrow and then decide what to do with it.

Can independent VAG garages do this sort of work ?

The car is well out of warranty and they may be abit cheaper than main dealerships.

Not been a great weekend as my Octy ended up at the dealers yesterday as well - but at least its still under warranty.

Just to add - the engine ran perfectly when some ezistart was squirted into the intake and the warning lights went out too but it stopped as soon as the ezistart was consumed. Thus it seems to be fuel delivery problem - which seems to be caused by the ECU somehow.

Well the codes read would give you more of an idea what exactly is wrong.

If it is a dead ECU you wont get any codes from it, I doubt it is however.

If it is an ECU issue I have a couple spare.

Got the car to Midland VW who solved the problem the same day. Problem turned out to be a duff £13-ish power relay supplying power to the ECU. All sorted, so had a few extras done whilst it was in the garage (the new Cupra bushes that Ive been wanting to fit for ages but couldnt find the time etc). Son, Tom, was much relieved at the eventual cost as you could imagine. (£175 for repairs and bushes + realignment rather than £600-800 for the ECU)
