Network password

Featured Replies

I've just switched from Orange (they put the price up) to Plusnet. Everything works ok but I keep getting a little box popping up called Network Password which already has the email address and password in it. It doesn't matter whether I cancel it or ok it. I've tried refilling it in and it doesn't make any difference. Running Vista on a HP laptop. Any hints gratefully received.

Is the password dialogue box in a web browser or Outook (Express) or something else? Can you post a screenshot?

Sorry for the delay but back at work so can't get a screen shot - it justs says "network password" then my email address and password in asterix, and is a little box which appears on either IE8 or Outlook or indeed with neither. Everything works ok as before the changeover, I must have missed something when altering the wireless settings but don't know what?

it sounds like you are still using your orange email address, dont forget that now you have cancelled orange this will also be stopped. the prompt is most likely because your email client is not configured to work correctly with plusnets servers and still trying to connect to oranges.

I've deleted the Orange email address when setting up the new account on Outlook

Yep, screenshot please :)

I've just been using the laptop for about an hour and it hasn't appeared once. I'm slightly reluctant to put a screenshot on (if I can remember how) as it contains my new email address etc.

I think I had this and you must enter the WHOLE username.... eg fred.at.plusnet.net or something similar

I think this is the "screenshot" curtesy of snipping tool minus email address. The thing about the box is that everything works ok its just annoying29939.attach

Sorry if this doesn't work but I am an amateur at this:O

Yep that is it you must use your whole username for it to work........I think it is

mail.at.username.plus.net

Email - Help & Support

The User Name should be the part before the @ symbol in your email address.

If that's no help you should give plusnet technical support a call.

I'll try reentering it all and see what happens

Just reentered it and no difference so I've emailed plusnet

Username and/or password is wrong. Case sensitive most likely error.

Correct it, then tick the save box.

Tried all sorts of combinations no difference. If username or password was wrong surely it wouldn't connect to anything - email, internet are all fine? Not heard from Plusnet yet.

Can you access email via Plusnet's webmail portal?

https://webmail.plus.net/src/login.php

That will tell you if your username/password is being accepted. Other than that, are your POP3 and SMTP servers pointing to Plusnet correctly? mail.plus.net and relay.plus.net respectively IIRC.

Steve

Yes I can access everything - email, webmail and internet and all works ok but the box still appears randomnly. Still nothing from Plusnet.

Got a reply from Plusnet saying pretty much this - the username is only the part in front of the @ not all the rest. I've changed it to this and the box has not appeared:) Problems is that it didn't always appear before. Everything still works - just as it did before:( I've checked the plusnet stuff and they said to enter the whole thing:thumbdwn:

Hopefully its fixed. Thanks to all for contributions.
