Reversing: brake noise?

Featured Replies

When I reverse the car and use the brakes there's a grinding noise, doesn't happen all the time. Should I get this checked out?

Standard VAG feature, some do it some dont, some more prone to it when wet.

You can remove the pads and chamfer the pads down if they aint allready and grease them up, thats about it.

Is it not worth getting it looked at then?

i chanhed mine to aftermarket pads from my local motorfactors and the noise has gone.

You can ask your local dealer, trouble is I dont think Skoda warranty will pay for it as there isnt a defect on the brakes themselves, best to have a chat and clarify with them.

I wonder who my local dealer is Ross? :D

i get it when the cars been washed and the surface of the disks has tinged orange (didnt want to say rusted), then after the pads have made a full circle of the disk its fine.

Wouldn't advise chamfering the pads, yes it reduces noise but I had a Mondeo with chamfered pads and small stones would get wedged in the chamfer and cut groves in the disc, had three sets of disc in 80k miles due to groves!

chamfering the pads

what does that mean?

i thought it meant having an angle ground to the leading edge but i might be wrong...

mechanic offered it as a solution to stabbing pads on the R19 once, i just changed the pads in the end.

tbh its probably worth leaving it for a while to see if things improve / go away, you've only done 1K miles in the car, although the pads should be pretty well bedded in the disks might not be fully deglazed yet.

just throwing ideas in the pot really.
