Phantom Fuel Cuts

Featured Replies

Wierd thing happened to me on a drive back from Plymouth yesterday, twice.

I should first point out that my car is at full Stage2+ spec running an Autotech fuel pump.

Basically, in 6th gear if I was to punch the throttle the car would hesitate then lose power. Every gear, from then on, would feel weak as if no boost. This is what I had experienced as the commonly known fuel cut, prior to installing the Autotech internals.

However, if I were to stop and simply restart the car all would be fine. This only happened to me twice on the 350 mile trip, but it worried me a bit.

On my arrival at home I immediately cracked open VCDS to do a scan, but to my amazement there were NO CODES. Wierd.

Part of me thinks I should pull the fuel pump and take a look at the cam follower. (which only has about 3500 miles under its belt)

Has anyone else noticed what the think is a fuel cut, once they've had the fuel pump upgrade done?

Could it have been timing correction H?? Pretty warm yesterday so if you have the settings wound up the ECU may have taken exception.

its plymouth mate, everytime i go home there my car has an issue!

I hope its not the pump. i dont think it will be. according to the yank forums and the uk gti forums there was a bad batch of autotech but it is sorted now, and they are now selling off the shelf, thats the only reason i bought one.

Before you had the fuel pump, did the fuel cuts show fault codes. try running some logs to check the fueling.

What RPM was this judder occuring at

had no issues with mine doing that in the heat

what temp was the uk yesterday. we hit 36 degrees here in germany the other day and have been above 28 degrees over the last 2 weeks pretty much non stop. could have been the cause

Car was tuned quite aggressively come to think of it, something like B7 T8 F9 I think it's running.

It's not done it at all today when I was out and about so hopefully nothing more to worry about.

Is timing 8 not a bit high harry?

Revo recommended to me not to go above 5 really even with all my mods.

I'd do some logging on Block 020 and check your timing pull. Anything around -5 or over on any of the cylinders i'd wind the timing back

Carl:thumbup:

some difference between your two timings there.

hows your car doing carl

hows your car doing carl

Well im not sure:mad:

The data logs suggest it's fine. It's meeting the requested boost quite well. Sometimes on the road it feels fantastic. Others it doesn't :(

It may just be me because Im now looking for a problem that is no longer there. But i am going to wait for the RR to be the definitive answer.

Anything over 275bhp and 320lb/ft and i'll be happy. But if no different then it's staying with Keith till it's sorted.

Harry - just as a note im running settings B8 T5 F9 (which is what i have been advised is about the best for Stage 2+) and the biggest timing pull i see is about -4.5 but only briefly its usually around -0.8 to -2.3. I'd really get a log done on Block 020 and see what your timing pull is

Carl:thumbup:

i do the same carl. its a paranoia thing once someting has gone wrong.

carl with your revo settings you can obviously adjust a lot there with your boost, timing and fuel. can you set it up to be really aggressive instead of your normal settings. if so how much difference is there.

ill def be going revo i think, bluefin is just the stop gap for the minute

Basically you need an SPS Select Plus switch to be able to do it. (about £150 iirc but well worth it). You also need VCDS though because if you are going to start messing you need to be able to Log what changes are being made so if any problems occur you can see where you need to alter (usually timing)

You can then alter the Boost,Timing & Fuel

Boost Level 1 is Stock & Boost Level 9 is the most the software allows (it doesn't work wonders though. Going say from B6 to B8 might only give you 5bhp if your lucky)

Same as for Timing

Fuel 1 is Stock and gets leaner all the way to 9.

Thats the way i have had it explained to me. If anyone reading this knows better please feel free to correct me

Unless you have VCDS it is advisable not to mess about. Just because B8 T5 F9 settings work on My car others it might not.

cheers mate. was just interested as id seen those b-t-f figures thrown around.

I was tempted to get hthat tax free apr deal at jkm but i cant find any non yank RR results for stage 2+ so ive binned that idea

According to someone i know APR stage2+ gives about 270bhp and 315lb/ft

Apparently a KO3s turbo is only rated to 270bhp  and when i told said person i knew 3 Revo Stage2+ cars (hopefully on thursday 4 cars :D) with between 280 and 288bhp i was told impossible. So take those figures as you wish

Oh and those APR Figures were a car with the same mods as me. So basically everything bar a KO4 and Injectors

Carl:thumbup:

il be happy with those figures on any map really.

its always the same though with these figures, different dynos read differently. plus all the variables being entered correctly, being correctly strapped down and what gear the power run was done in as well. that stage 2+bluefin map i found was done in 5th gear, but all the RR days ive been on i could swear 4th gear was used.

ive decided against K04 now anyway, its alot of futher spending for not that much extra.

i plan on getting water meth injection for xmas so that should close the gap nicely.

stage 2+ gives 275BHPish

water meth gives 15-20BHP.ish,

so for an extra 500 queen quids you could be running a potential 295HP.

:Oharry sorry for hijacking your thread there mate:O

I saw those kits

Will let you be the guinea pig :D

Carl:thumbup:

yanks oveer the pond if you can ignore all the bitching in the threads have been raving about how good they are. there is a lot of confusion over how it works but i aint bothered about that. there is also no printed dynos yet(but yank dynos notoriously over exagerate) but the guys with the water meth injection insist that the difference is quite vast to feel.

what i have not read though is the torque increase only BHP. ive dropped a line to Jabba with a few questions. hopefully get an answer next week.

if i can hit 280-290bhp and 330-340Ibft with bluefin and this wmeth injection i wont bother with revo i think.

Carl:thumbup:

ill take one for the team.
