Bumper inserts filled in.

Featured Replies

Just got a quote for getting my bumper inserts filled on the front and back for £310 although I'm not sure if this is a good price or not, think I should get it done for the price?

Also I asked how much it'd cost to get my rear drums painted black and they said it would cost an extra £40, but I don't think that's worth it tbh.

This is a photoshop I did with the front bumper inserts smoothed over (looks a LOT better imo):

I wanna try something different :P plus if I'm honest I prefer the filled inserts bumper than the vrs bumper :D

I'm not sure if thats a fair price for the inserts filled in but £40 to get the rear drums painted

That is daylight robbery !!!

Going to get some standard bumpers and tyr this myself for the VRS, bored with it just now.

its not at all, do you think they work for free ?

cost of paint + labour would cost more than £40 at most bodyshops

I got quoted £85+VAT to get a wing resprayed. So £40 to get drums sprayed black is quite expensive.

it's at least an hours work, doing it properly; so £40 isn't totally unreasonable. But an easy job to do yourself for the cost of a tin of paint!

That's the reason why I'm doing it myself now, because it's much cheaper. I thought that if they would paint em cheap enough I may as well get them to do it because I cba to do it myself lol, but £40 is too much imo to pay when it's not a complicated job to do myself. I'm not saying it's an unreasonable price, just saying it's not worth it when I can do it for a lot less

Tin of smooth black hammerite and a wire brush for the drums and you are sorted!

Well I have decided to give it a go myself now. I'm going to get new bumpers though just incase I ruin the ones on my car :P

I say smooth um if you wanna, but before you do, ponder what else £310 would buy? I wouldn't do it myself.. not because I don't like the look, but because £310 would lower my car and re-con my alloys ;) but seeing as these are things you've aready done :D

That said, that £310 could get you closer to the 100bhp you were questioning in the other thread :)

And you could always spray the inserts, see how they look.. and if ya can live with it tune instead ;)

p.s. How did the Audi Alloy eBay paint work out?

Yeah I've decided that £310 is quite a lot of money which can be put towards something else. I've now bought a bumper on ebay for £45 so waiting for that to come now and I'll hopefully get it prepared ready for paint before the end of the summer holidays! The reason I've bought one on ebay is because I don't want to mess up the one on the car, so if all goes well with this one I've bought I'll probably fill the rear bumper that I have instead of buying a new rear bumper as well.

I've given up on more power now tbh, I think I'll just put my money towards tweaking the looks then when I'm old enough for insurance to be affordable I'll buy a vrs or something with the equivalent engine :D

Id buy VRS bumpers if i was you. Would look smart because you dont get a vrs in the colour of your car. You going to attempt to smooth it yourself?

Yep I'll be smoothing/filling it and my dad painting it, if it all goes tits up then at least I had a bit of fun trying :)

Yea good on you mate. I smoothed the front grills and indicators / fogs on my last car, a mk3 golf gti. Just dont make the mistake i did, built it up with alot of fibreglass and it weighed quite a bit! Try plastic welding in a panel or putting mesh at the back so theres not a huge build up with fillers.

Haha, thanks for the tip! I'll post up a few pics of my progress
