VRS: Knocking noise no CV joint? Any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently changed the front LH outer CV boot on the VRS as the inner otiker clip had popped off causing a small amount of grease to spill out (teaspoon full). There was a slight knocking noise when turning right through a certain angle which i thought was the boot & clip flapping around, the noise is still there but im unsure to what it could be. 80% of the old grease removed and replaced with the genuine grease in the kit. The joint and balls where briefly inspected, nothing stood out.

The car is 2005 and has covered 48k all motorway.

Any ideas e.g. bushes i should look at?

Thanks,

Mat

if there has been any water ingress into the joint then damage to internals can occur, but you say it looks ok

is the joint tight in the splines in the hub ?

Problem now identified.

The joint was on its way out prior to me changing the boot. When i took the ball bearings out of the housing i removed all the balls in one go BIG MISTAKE, not taking into account which one came from where. They are now not housed in there original homes. The noise has been increased due the wear on each of the ball bearing homes not corresponding to the ball bearing which 'wore' it in.

It makes sense so im off to TPS to pick up a new outer joint!

Job done,

Thanks
