1.4TD 70bhp and 80bhp - differences

Featured Replies

What are the 'hardware' differences between the PD70 and PD80 engines? Difference in turbo's, clutches etc? Or is it just down to different software?

I'd also be interested to know of 'real world' performance differences between these two 70PS and 80 PS engines. I would think most Fabia buyers plump for the 80PS version because of the lower tax (£35), despite the higher initial price. Have many forum members bought the 70PS version?

I asked my dealer before i baught mine, he was pretty sure it was just the software, but then again most salesmen dont really no that much, i plumped for the pd80 :D

its got to be the pd80 for the tax, think of the savings and resale value.

my dealer couldnt tell me of any difference other than the software.

I want to know to, tomorrow I am picking up a TDI70 for my girlfriend.

It's not so much the PS/BHP difference but the torque. I think the 80 TDI is rated at 192NM while the 70 TDI is around 144NM, or thereabouts.

It's just a bit more than that Adrianh1. The 80bhp (not ps) is 195nm @2200rpm, while the 70bhp is 155nm at 1600-2800rpm. I believe the 70bhp motor lacks the large plastic engine cover that absorbs engine noise, at least the one I examined didn't have one fitted.

no- one got any further thoughts on this. I was told the 70 and 80 engines in the Roomster are the same part number. But i'm interested too - I've bought a 70 as it was 1. there, and 2. cheap.....

Is there any way i could get the official 80 map, do you think ?? ;)

The main difference for me was the £35 road tax for the TDi 80.

can anyone confirm the turbos are definitely the same Variable Vane?
