Difference between a PD 105 and PD 140 Diesel?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering what is changed mechanically between the 1.9 litre PD 105 and the higher power PD 130 or PD 150 1.9 litre PD Diesels. The reason being that I'm considering a remap of my PD 105 to somewhere in the region of 140-145 bhp and I reckon insuring it would be a lot easier if I could match it to a standard car setup that already exists on the insurance company's books rather than something 'custom'.

A friend of mine has already been successful in making this sort of argument with his insurance company when he changed out the injectors on his TDi 90 to bring it closer to a TDi 110, so it certainly can be done...

Was there ever a higher power 1.9 PD engine like the 130 or 150 (Apart from the 170 in the VRS) in the Octavia II?

There were plenty of options made in the 1.9 PD according to the Wikipedia page anyway:

List of Volkswagen Group diesel engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PD105= 8 Valve head, PD140= 16 valve head.

PD105= 5 speed box, PD140= 6 speed box.

different internals, and other small differences.

psycholist,

I think you've got the model years mixed up. The PD130 and 150 were found in the older VW platforms. The 105 carried over as the entry level diesel engine in the Octy II line, but the 2.0 unit is a totally different beast.

Although the 140 is PD it has a totally different head and can come in 8v or 16v varients. It also runs a different ECU IIRC.

Just realised I never changed the title of the post after finding there was no 1.9 PD 140, only a 2 litre...

Though possibly since insurance companies will definitely have the 2.0 PD140 on the books this might be the best way to find quotes to use for negotiation... :)
