Whistley Turbo Trouble...

Featured Replies

What do you guys reckon to the whistley noise coming from my 42k mile 4 year old Ibiza FR TDi?

Had it recovered back home today as there was a pop noise followed by the whistle when I pulled away from some lights, no smoke out the back though...

Doesn't sound too healthy mate. All you can do is check for a boost leak at the various intake pipework. If no leaks, the sound does suggest the turbo is whining, with the turbo shaft running on the bearing, rather than in oil film. Might have popped part of a blade, so now out of balance.

ye dont sounds healthy - altho does sound like an aeroplane....but deffo sounds like a turbo issue.....from experience pipes generally cause a hissing noise.

Mine sounded like this but a little bit more metal on metal sound to it and mine was the turbo:mad:

Definately sounds fubar'd that mate, its not like the whistling i use to occur from the inlet manifold blowing.
